Wedges live or die on bounce and turf interaction, and Tacoma's soft, wet fairways for a good chunk of the year behave differently than a dry-condition fitting chart assumes. We fit for the turf you actually play.
Bounce, Grind, and Attack Angle Together
Bounce works with your attack angle and the firmness of the turf underneath the ball — not as a fixed number that applies everywhere. We test wedges off both a simulated firm lie and a softer, wetter lie closer to what you'll see most of the year around the South Sound, watching how the sole interacts with each.
Once bounce and grind are settled, loft gapping across your wedge set is checked against your actual carry distances, and every wedge is finished and swingweight-matched on our bench before it goes in your bag.
What Actually Changes in a Wedge Build
Bounce Angle
Higher bounce resists digging on soft or wet turf; lower bounce suits firmer conditions and players with a shallower attack angle.
Sole Grind
Grind shapes how the sole behaves at address and through varied turf firmness, especially on shots played with an open face.
Loft Gapping
Even 4–6 degree steps between wedges close scoring-distance gaps that a mismatched set leaves wide open.
Shaft Weight
Wedge shafts are often built heavier than the irons above them for more feel and control on partial shots around the green.
Face Texture & Grooves
Groove sharpness affects spin more in wet conditions than dry ones — something worth factoring in if you play year-round here.
Length & Lie
Wedge length and lie angle are checked against your setup on partial and full swings, since technique often shifts between the two.
What a Wedge Fitting Can Fix
Chunking Shots From Soft Lies
Too little bounce for wet, soft turf lets the leading edge dig before the ball. Adding bounce or changing grind usually corrects this directly.
Bladed Shots on Firm Ground
Excess bounce on firm turf can cause the leading edge to skip into the ball. Lower bounce or a different grind restores control.
Uneven Distance Control
Wedges gapped too close together, or too far apart, make partial-shot distance control unreliable. Loft steps get corrected at the fitting.
Spin Loss in Wet Conditions
Worn or shallow grooves lose meaningfully more spin once moisture is involved — a common issue we check for during any wedge fitting here.
