Reading a Clubwright Build Ticket

Every club that comes off our bench leaves with a signed ticket recording exactly what went into it: head model, shaft and flex, loft and lie as built (not just as ordered), length, swingweight, and grip size. It's a habit borrowed from woodworking and boat repair shops, where a written record of exactly what was done outlasts anyone's memory of the job.

Why "As Built" Matters More Than "As Ordered"

A spec sheet from a fitting session records intent. A build ticket records what actually happened on the bench — and the two aren't always identical. A hosel might get bored a fraction differently than planned, or a lie angle might get adjusted half a degree during final verification. The ticket reflects reality, not the original plan.

What Each Field Is Actually For

The loft and lie fields matter most if a club ever needs to be re-bent after years of play — metal drifts slowly under repeated impact, and knowing the original spec means we can restore it exactly rather than guessing. The swingweight field matters if you ever want a replacement club to match your existing set rather than feeling like an odd one out. The shaft field matters most of all if a shaft ever needs replacing after a break, since matching flex and weight from a ticket is far more reliable than matching by feel alone.

A ticket is only useful years later if it was accurate the day it was written — that's the whole argument for building and recording on the same bench.
